Anyone entering the second room at EXPERIENCE TIROL will embark on a journey through time in a way that has never been seen before. Our virtual reality installation is not just a visual experience – it is the result of months of development work, historical meticulousness and the use of state-of-the-art technology.
900 square kilometers of Tyrol’s past
The basis for this extraordinary experience is a virtual replica of Tyrol covering an area of 30 x 30 kilometers – that’s 900 km² full of history, emotion and detail. The goal: a photorealistic Tyrol as it looked in past centuries.
Architecture through the ages
More than 20 historical buildings and facilities have been reconstructed true to the original. The buildings date back to the 15th and 16th centuries, 19. and 20th century. Materials, building styles and architectural details have been carefully researched and digitally recreated. Every beam, every window, every wall tells its own story.
Drama in 3D – thanks to photogrammetry
To ensure that our VR journey through time doesn’t just remain a backdrop, we filled it with life: Over 128 actors in historical costumes were captured in 3D using photogrammetry and integrated into the scenes. This allows you to meet real people from times long past – authentic, moving and up close.

Weapons, equipment & atmosphere: everything is just right
Even the smallest details such as weapons, tools and clothing correspond to the respective historical context. The latest simulation techniques such as fluids and voxel technologies were used for fire, smoke and other special effects – making the immersion in the past a holistic experience.

The entire VR world can be experienced in razor-sharp 8K resolution. Every angle, every movement reveals new details and perspectives – and ensures that you are not just watching, but are right in the middle of the action.
